List of Dominion Cards that Cost 2 Coin

list of dominion cards that cost 2 coinAs was mentioned in the introduction to the List of Dominion Cards that Cost Less than 2 Coin, Dominion is a very well-designed game.  Each facet of the game contributes to the overall whole, from the artwork on the cards to the themes within each set all the way down to the cost of each card.  Nothing is arbitrary or random, and every card undergoes extensive testing and trial play prior to being included into a released set or expansion.

This play-testing allows the value of cards to be accurately determined.  Once the relative value of the card in question is ironed out, the Coin cost is ascribed to it.  Generally, a card costing 2 Coin is the minimal cost of a card that is beneficial (or is typically beneficial) to a deck.  Cards costing 2 Coin will and should usually be skipped in favor of cards that cost 3 Coin or more.  But, if the board is attack heavy and either Moat or Lighthouse is available, it may be prudent to buy a few.  All in all, cards that cost 2 Coin are situational cards that serve in specific purposes, but can often be overlooked if more than 2 Coin is available for purchasing cards.

One notable exception is Chapel.  Chapel is the strongest card in the game, relative to its cost, hands down.  The ability to trash four cards at a time can minimize the effect of Cursing attacks and ramp up both engine and Big Money strategies much more quickly than they would otherwise have gotten ramped up.

This is a list of Dominion cards that cost 2 Coin. Cards costing 2 Coin are unlikely to be pivotal game-winning cards, so be sure to identify which cards WILL be critical before making your first purchase.  But, on the other hand, if 2 Coin cards play a role in your strategy, buy them whenever you need to have them.  Also, the cards from Dominion Alchemy are notable because, while they cost 2 Coin, they also include the alternative Potion cost (which costs 4 Coin to buy itself). The cards with Potion in their cost can and do typically benefit more than the others.

The Dominion cards that cost 2 Coin are listed below in table form. The table is sortable by clicking the header of each column, should you wish to sort it further.

List of Dominion Cards that Cost 2 Coin: Conclusion

The 2 Coin cards often win games at the margin and are usually not central to a winning strategy.  Their cheap cost, however, can make it easier to end the game by rushing to a 3 pile ending.  And, a Goons game can see many Victory Point tokens accrued without clogging your deck like buying Coppers will if there are 2 Coin cards that grant actions available.

Don’t ignore or overlook these cards, however.  Anyone who opens 5/2 knows how frustrating it can be to have the good fortune of opening with 5 Coppers and 2 Coppers if there is no decent cards that cost 2 Coin on the board.  Add mediocre 5 Coin cards, and what would usually be a boon turns into a liability.  While 2 Coin cards can be over-hyped, don’t ignore them either.  Buy them when they fit your strategy!

So, keep playing and having fun! If you have a comment or a bit of knowledge to share, be sure to leave a comment below.

A bit of advice for the new players – Chapel is (arguably) the most powerful card in the game, let alone 2 Coins cards. It will allow trashing four cards on your third or fourth turn to allow buying of money cards to further use Chapel to trash the rest of the coppers and Estates. It will turbo-charge the deck. Including a secondary trash like Steward(3) or Bishop(4) is sometimes a good idea to get rid of Chapel when no longer needed (engine). It also allows the trashing of curses which can bog down a deck.

***** You can use Chapel to trash into a five card combo hand like (Bishop, Fortress, Fortress, Poor House, Poor House) in seven-eight turns or add a Grand Market in one more turn if Colonies are in play. *****

    Good Luck players!
