Unlike the previous two sets, the original Dominion game and Dominion Intrigue, Dominion Seaside is not a stand-alone game.  It is only an expansion and requires one of the previous two games to correctly play the game. So, if you haven’t picked up one of the first two games, do so before getting the Seaside expansion! (or, you can buy the base-cards-only pack that lets you play any expansion as a stand-alone game)

With each addition to the Dominion universe thus far, new themes have been added to expand game play and further add complexity, strategic options, and power to the overall experience. The primary theme introduced by Dominion Seaside is cards that, once played, have an effect that carries forward into the player’s next turn.  These duration cards do not go back into the discard pile and can’t be drawn two successive turns, since they remain in play once played.  However, they are both some of the most popular and most powerful cards in the game.  This theme dramatically increases the strategic possibilities and makes turn planning more exciting (the duration cards are Haven, Lighthouse, Fishing Village, Caravan, Merchant Ship, Outpost, Tactician, Wharf).
